The Digital Business Starter Map
Here it is. A digital business really comes down to a handful of pieces. Below, you'll see what each one is, what it does, and what to focus on first. Read it once, then come back to it whenever you feel lost. That's all this is for.
The pieces, and what each one does
1. An offer
Something people can buy. Here's the part that surprises most beginners: you don't have to create it yourself. You can promote someone else's product and earn a commission, which means no inventory, no shipping, and nothing to invent.
Focus first: pick one offer you actually believe in. One. You can always add more later.
2. A place to send people
A simple page that explains the offer and invites people to take one step. Not a whole website with menus and tabs. One clear page, like the one that brought you here.
Focus first: one page with one job. Don't build a website yet.
3. A way to collect contacts
A form that lets people give you their name and email, so you can stay in touch. This is the single most valuable asset you'll build, because it's yours and you can reach it again and again.
Focus first: start collecting emails from day one, even before everything else is perfect.
4. Follow-up
The emails that go out after someone joins your list. This is where trust gets built, and it can run automatically once you set it up. It's the difference between a one-time visit and a real relationship.
Focus first: a short, friendly welcome sequence. A few emails is plenty to start.
5. Attention
How people find you in the first place: a post, a short video, a conversation, a shared link. You don't need all of it. You need one source you'll actually show up for.
Focus first: pick one way to get attention and stick with it long enough to learn it.
So what do you do first?
Don't try to build all five pieces at once. That's what causes the overwhelm. Start here: pick one offer, put up one simple page with a form, and begin collecting emails. Add the follow-up and the traffic once that's in motion.
That's the whole game, learned one piece at a time. Keep the paycheck, create another option, and let it grow at a pace that fits your life.
When you're ready to see all five pieces working together in one place, here's the system I personally use.
